Malaysian Gang Sentenced for Singapore Poker Game Heist
Six Malaysian men have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from seven years and eight months to 12 years and 11 months for their roles in a high-stakes poker game robbery in Singapore. The gang, led by Wong Chi Shan and Goh Boon Tong, targeted a luxury home in King Albert Park where a private poker game was being held on April 18, 2024.
The robbers, armed with machetes and baseball bats, restrained the players and searched their phones for cryptocurrency apps. They stole over $3 million in cryptocurrency, cash, and luxury watches before fleeing across the border into Malaysia.
Wong and Goh were each sentenced to 12 years and 11 months in prison, as well as 24 strokes of the cane and a fine of S$4,000. Four accomplices received prison terms ranging from seven years and eight months to 10½ years, with three also receiving 24 strokes of the cane.
Authorities have recovered approximately S$1.69 million of the stolen funds, leaving around S$3.21 million unaccounted for.
