Malone Lam to Plead Guilty in $240 Million Bitcoin Theft Case
Malone Lam, the alleged ringleader of a group accused of stealing over $240 million in Bitcoin from a Washington D.C. investor, is set to plead guilty as part of a plea agreement hearing.
The case centers on an August 2024 attack against a wealthy crypto investor known as 'Victim 7.'
Prosecutors said the group used social engineering tactics to obtain account access and security codes, allowing them to steal over 4,100 BTC from Victim 7's account.
The stolen cryptocurrency was then moved through multiple exchange platforms as money launderers worked to convert parts of the proceeds into fiat currency, according to prosecutors.
