Malware Scheme on Steam Compromises Thousands of Devices, Drains Crypto Wallets
Federal investigators have uncovered a malware scheme that compromised approximately 8,000 devices through eight infected games on Steam. The operation allegedly ran from May 2024 to February 2026 and enabled attackers to access at least 80 cryptocurrency wallets, draining them of $220,000.
The FBI is seeking potential victims as the investigation continues. Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, a 21-year-old man from North Lauderdale, Florida, faces one count of conspiracy to obtain computer information for private financial gain tied to the scheme.
According to court documents, the malware-laced games collected passwords, wallet credentials, browser data, and other sensitive information after victims installed them. Investigators estimate that the stolen information ultimately enabled unauthorized access to cryptocurrency wallets.
