MANTRA Blockchain Halted After Exploit Causes Token Plunge
The Ethereum Virtual Machine layer-1 blockchain MANTRA has halted production due to a software exploit. The token, MANTRA, plummeted 18.5% to an all-time low of $0.004126 around 11:10 p.m. UTC Thursday before the network's last recorded block was produced at about 11:13 p.m. UTC.
The team announced the halt roughly half an hour later, stating that all endpoints and transactions were frozen as a precaution while it investigated. MANTRA fell from $0.005060 to its record low shortly before the network stopped producing blocks.
A vulnerability in an 'upstream dependency' was exploited by an attacker, according to a later update. The team identified the vulnerability and is working on a patched release. Restarting the blockchain will require coordination with validators.
