MANTRA Chain Network Rebooted After 30-Hour Cosmos-EVM Vulnerability Shutdown
MANTRA Chain's network was offline for nearly 30 hours due to a critical vulnerability in its Cosmos-EVM module. The security flaw allowed an attacker to compromise two of the project's internal wallet addresses, but no user funds were affected.
The development team identified the issue on August 20 and immediately shut down mainnet operations to prevent further exploitation. After deploying version 8.4.0 with a comprehensive security patch, the network was restarted at 5:30 a.m. UTC on August 22.
Throughout the downtime period, trading activity surged nearly 600%, with MANTRA's native token experiencing an 18.5% decline in value to an all-time low of $0.004126. The price floor occurred shortly before the network processed its final block.
The team has committed to publishing a detailed post-mortem analysis addressing the Cosmos-EVM vulnerability and outlining the comprehensive response protocol in the near future.
