MARA Borrows $600 Million Against Bitcoin to Fund AI and Energy Expansion
MARA Holdings has taken out two significant credit facilities against its Bitcoin treasury to fund its expansion into artificial intelligence and energy infrastructure.
The company borrowed $600 million on August 4, 2026, pledging 18,750 BTC across the two facilities. Coinbase provided $450 million, refinancing an existing loan of $150 million, while Two Prime contributed $300 million. Both credit lines mature in August 2028.
The primary target for this new funding is the acquisition of the Long Ridge power-generation site, which will support up to 2 gigawatts of capacity. MARA plans to direct this power towards AI and high-performance computing workloads alongside traditional energy infrastructure.
This move follows MARA's refinancing of older debt on August 6, 2026, as part of a broader $750 million facility arrangement. The Long Ridge acquisition faces a closing deadline of November 30, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
