Mara Holdings Dumps Nearly One-Third of Bitcoin Stash Amid Financial Struggles
Mara Holdings has significantly reduced its Bitcoin stash over the past year, selling off nearly a third of its total holdings. The company's current BTC position stands at 35,577, down from 49,951 in the same period last year and 53,822 at the end of 2025.
The largest single sale occurred in March 2026, when Mara offloaded 15,133 BTC for approximately $1.1B. This cash injection went toward repurchasing convertible notes, reducing MARA's debt load by roughly 30%.
During Q2 2026, the company reported a net loss of $611.3M, with $343M coming from unrealized mark-to-market declines on digital assets. Revenue fell 27% year-over-year to $174.9M, but production during Q2 came in at 2,422 BTC mined.
MARA is not only downsizing its Bitcoin position; it's also repositioning itself toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure. By activating approximately 26% of its holdings for lending and collateral purposes, MARA is treating its Bitcoin less like a sacred reserve and more like working capital.
