MARA Holdings' Earnings Plunge Amid Increasing Dependence on Bitcoin
MARA Holdings reported significant losses in its second-quarter earnings, swinging from a net income of $808.24 million to a net loss of $609.69 million.
The company's sales decreased by 26.4% year-over-year to $174.88 million, and for the first half, it posted $349.50 million in sales with a net loss of $1.87 billion.
MARA Holdings reshaped its balance sheet by selling over $1.60 billion worth of Bitcoin and securing $750 million in Bitcoin-backed loans to fund energy infrastructure and growth initiatives.
The company's use of large Bitcoin-backed facilities to finance energy and data infrastructure raises concerns about its dependence on Bitcoin prices, which could amplify losses if the cryptocurrency's value weakens.
