MARA Holdings is expanding its operations in Matagorda County as it seeks to capitalize on the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The company, which already owns over 1,200 acres of land in the county, plans to increase its power portfolio from 1.9 gigawatts to as much as 4.8 gigawatts in the coming years.

The move is part of MARA's strategy to reposition itself for the AI data center boom. The company believes that its existing assets and new developments will enable it to meet the increasing demand for AI computing power.

Bitcoin mining, which has been a major focus for MARA in the past, is taking a backseat as the company shifts its attention towards AI data centers. This shift reflects the changing landscape of the digital economy, where AI and machine learning are becoming increasingly important drivers of growth.
