MARA Sinks into Loss on Slumping Bitcoin Prices Despite Record Output
MARA, a company focused on Bitcoin mining and infrastructure development, reported a significant loss in its second quarter results. The net loss of $611.3 million is attributed to a decline in Bitcoin prices, despite the company's highest quarterly production in over a year.
In Q2 2026, MARA mined 2,422 Bitcoin, a 3% increase from the same period last year. However, this growth was offset by a 28% drop in the average Bitcoin price.
The company held a total of 35,577 Bitcoin as of June 30, with a fair value of $2.1 billion, making it the fourth-largest public holder after Strategy and Twenty One Capital.
MARA's CEO Fred Thiel emphasized that Bitcoin mining remains the core of the business, generating cash flow to support other investments in AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.
