MARA Stock Drops on Q2 Loss Amid Shift Towards Digital Infrastructure
MARA stock (Nasdaq: MARA) dropped by 5.25% to $10.65 on August 6 after the company reported a second-quarter loss of $611.3 million, or $1.60 per share.
The decline was driven largely by an accounting change related to the falling price of Bitcoin, which forced MARA to revalue its digital assets and recognize a non-cash loss of approximately $343 million.
However, beneath the headline numbers, MARA's mining operations showed signs of improvement, with the company mining 2,422 BTC in the quarter, up 3% year-over-year, and increasing its energized hashrate by 22% to 70.3 exahash per second.
MARA is also shifting its focus towards digital infrastructure and AI compute, with a series of expansion deals aiming to support up to 4.8 gigawatts of power capacity.
