MARA Unloads $1.63 Billion in Bitcoin Sales Amid Market Volatility
MARA Holdings has been actively managing its Bitcoin treasury in 2026. According to its latest filing, the company sold approximately 23,093 BTC for around $1.63 billion during the first half of the year.
The average sale price was around $70,631 per coin, with most sales taking place in the first quarter when MARA unloaded 20,880 BTC for about $1.5 billion. By June 30, MARA's Bitcoin holdings had fallen to 35,577 units valued at approximately $2.08 billion.
The company has been using its remaining Bitcoin reserves alongside debt financing to support projects such as the planned acquisition of Long Ridge Energy & Power in Ohio. In addition to selling coins, MARA has also increased lending and collateralized borrowing with its remaining BTC holdings. The company has pledged 18,750 BTC to secure $600 million of incremental borrowing from Coinbase and Two Prime.
MARA's strategy involves using its Bitcoin reserves as both a treasury asset and a source of liquidity. The company can now hold Bitcoin as a long-term investment, sell coins based on market conditions, or make opportunistic purchases. By June 30, MARA reported $421.3 million in cash and cash equivalents.
