Market Volatility Continues Amidst Global Headlines and Energy Concerns
The market has been reacting to various news headlines over the past few days. US President Trump's statement on August 19 that the CFTC is working to bring Hyperliquid into the US in a legal fashion caused a stir, with Hyperliquid (PURR) rising by 21% and Nasdaq (NDAQ) and CME Group (CME) experiencing some weight.
However, more recent news has focused on the energy sector. On September 8, Saudi Energy Minister announced that a number of energy facilities and utilities were hit and are temporarily halting some operations, causing equity indices to drop by 0.3% and Brent Nov'26 to rise by 1.0%.
Additionally, North Korea's decision to strip references to 'peaceful unification' with South Korea from the charter of its ruling Workers' Party of Korea was reported on September 3, leading to a decline in equity indices by 3.3%. Initial reports of an American attack on Iran on September 1 also caused some market volatility, with ES falling by 0.2%.
One other piece of news worth noting is that Strategy (MSTR) did not purchase or sell Bitcoin from August 31 to September 7.
