Massie Warns 10% US Debt Spike in Trump Second Term
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has sounded an alarm over the growing US national debt, warning that 10% of the entire $39.4 to $39.8 trillion accumulated debt will be added in just the first half of Donald Trump's second term.
Making this claim on August 3, 2026, Massie stated that the addition would come from a combination of factors, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed into law on July 4, 2025, which is projected to widen deficits by $3.4 trillion over ten years.
The Congressman has voted against this bill and related debt-limit increases, attributing the growing deficit in 2026 to the combined weight of the One Big Beautiful Bill, military expenditures tied to ongoing conflict with Iran, and additional spending measures moving through Congress.
Massie's warning echoes the thesis underlying Bitcoin as a store of value, which is that persistent multi-trillion-dollar deficits can lead governments to inflate away debt by printing money and accepting a weaker currency. This scenario would be favorable for Bitcoin's inflation-hedge narrative.
