Mastercard and Borderless Pilot Cross-Border Stablecoin Payments with Cryptographic Credentials
Mastercard and stablecoin orchestration network Borderless have partnered to test a new pilot project that explores how Mastercard's Crypto Credential standards-based framework can improve trust in cross-border stablecoin payments.
The pilot aims to address the challenge of providing assurance signals for blockchain transactions, using common standards and governance signals to reduce friction in stablecoin payments.
Borderless CEO Kevin Lehtiniitty explained that compliance is one of the biggest obstacles for stablecoin payments, stating 'Correspondent banking solved this decades ago: originating compliance trusted downstream, no re-execution at every counterparty.'
Mastercard's Crypto Credential will act as a governance and verification layer during the pilot, but Mastercard will not process or settle funds.
