Mastercard Expands Settlement Network for Regulated Stablecoins
Mastercard is expanding its settlement network to support regulated stablecoins alongside fiat currency. The company announced on June 3 that it will add intraday, weekend, and holiday settlement for six regulated stablecoins across multiple blockchains. These stablecoins include Circle's USD Coin (USDC), Paxos-issued PayPal USD (PYUSD), Global Dollar (USDG), Pax Dollar (USDP), Ripple USD (RLUSD), and SoFi's SoFiUSD. The new rails will run alongside Mastercard's current fiat process without disrupting it.
The stablecoin settlement network will support eight networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Base, Arbitrum, the XRP Ledger, Canton, and Tempo. Mastercard has partnered with several banks to be among the first users of this new service in the United States and Latin America. The company plans to expand the service through 2026.
This move follows a series of recent steps into crypto by Mastercard. In May 2026, it secured a BitLicense from the New York State Department of Financial Services. It also agreed to buy stablecoin infrastructure firm BVNK for up to $1.8 billion in March 2026.
