Mastercard Pushes into Stablecoins with Expanded Services

Mastercard has made significant strides in expanding its stablecoin settlement services over the past five years. This push into stablecoins is driven by their potential to accelerate cross-border disbursements, treasury operations, and merchant payouts.

The company's partnership with Circle, a leading stablecoin issuer, has been crucial in this expansion. In 2021, Mastercard joined a pilot program to test USD Coin (USDC), a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. Since then, it has launched a full suite of stablecoin settlement tools and facilitated on-chain remittances.

Mastercard's continued investment in stablecoins is also evident in its recent acquisition of BVNK, an enterprise stablecoin infrastructure platform. This move is expected to bolster the company's cross-border payment pipelines.
