Mastercard Takes Aim at Stablecoin Compliance Hurdles
Mastercard has launched a pilot program that lets one compliance check for stablecoin payments travel across an entire network, eliminating the need for repeated checks at every stop.
The program, which is being run in conjunction with Borderless.xyz, uses Mastercard's Crypto Credential verification system to establish trust between participants in cross-border stablecoin transactions.
Three companies - Infinia, Walapay, and Koywe - are the first to participate in the pilot, which aims to reduce the overhead of compliance work that can multiply with each new counterparty relationship.
The company's strategy is clear: by owning both the settlement rails through its recent acquisition of BVNK, and now the verification layer, Mastercard becomes a major player in the stablecoin economy.
