Mateen Invests Big in American Bitcoin Amid Price Volatility
Justin Mateen, co-founder of Tinder and an independent director at American Bitcoin Corp, has invested nearly $2 million in the company's stock. On March 3, 2026, he purchased 1.8 million shares of ABTC's Class A common stock for around $1.03 per share, totaling a roughly $1.85 million outlay.
The timing of this investment is notable as it comes after American Bitcoin reported a Q4 2025 loss of $59 million, largely due to bitcoin price swings. However, the company's use of accounting mechanics means that paper losses can balloon during downturns even if no coins are actually sold.
Mateen wasn't the only director making investments; fellow board member Richard Busch also purchased shares around this time. Mateen received an additional 46,404 restricted stock units on July 29, 2026, which will vest at the 2027 annual meeting, further tying his financial interests to the company's performance.
American Bitcoin operates under a dual-track strategy that combines traditional self-mining operations with direct bitcoin purchases for its corporate treasury. As of early August 2026, the company had amassed more than 8,000 BTC in its treasury.
