Maui Man Accused of $1.85M Crypto Scam Claims Indigency

A Maui man accused of running a cryptocurrency scam is claiming to be 'indigent' and unable to pay for his own GPS monitoring, according to federal court records.

Alton Joseph Franco, 56, allegedly conned investors out of more than $1.85 million through an artificial intelligence investing scheme called Decentralized Hedge Fund (DHF).

The scam promised average monthly returns of 10% on systematic investments in four cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ether, USD Coin, and Tether.
