The Maya Protocol's MAYAChain blockchain has been halted following an attack that drained approximately $1.65 million from the network on August 18, 2026. The attacker exploited a series of six faults in one transaction, which triggered a false theft detection in the software and allowed them to withdraw 48.87 million CACAO tokens.

The team behind Maya Protocol has confirmed that the attack resulted in assets worth around $1.65 million being drained from the network, with roughly $1.36 million moving out to external blockchains and $291,000 remaining on MAYAChain under the attacker's control.

As a result of the halt, swaps have been frozen, and users who had swapped through MAYAChain or provided liquidity are left wondering where their coins are and what they can do with them. The protocol token CACAO has lost almost 89% of its value since the attack.
