McDonald's India Crises Amid Meme Coin Promotion
McDonald's India found itself in an unexpected crisis over the weekend when its verified X (Twitter) account made a series of posts. The first post claimed that an unpaid intern was owed ₹60,000 by the company.
The posts were written in the first person, with the writer claiming to have interned at McDonald's India and run several Asian social media handles for the company. They named Amit Joshi as a manager who failed to pay their salary since December 2025.
However, one of the later posts revised the date to May, creating an inconsistency that raised doubts about the authenticity of the claims. Another post increased the outstanding sum above ₹60,000, roughly $650.
The writer also claimed to have suffered from meme coin trading losses, stating they were starving daily. The final messages promoted a token and shared crypto wallet addresses, before noting that fees had been claimed.
McDonald's India eventually pulled the thread and responded with a meme of a dog holding a phone. The company has not confirmed whether its account was breached or if the posts were genuine.
