McKenzie and Senate Democrats Vow to Block CLARITY Act Over Trump Ties
Crypto critic and actor Ben McKenzie has urged Congress to block the CLARITY Act due to President Trump's financial ties to the digital asset industry. At a Capitol Hill anti-corruption forum, McKenzie argued that lawmakers cannot oppose 'Trump's crypto corruption' while supporting the bill. He warned Democrats that only a handful of votes could be enough for the bill to pass.
McKenzie was joined by Senate Democrats Richard Blumenthal and Chris Van Hollen in lobbying against the bill. They believe that the current version of the CLARITY Act does not go far enough in addressing ethics concerns, particularly with regards to President Trump's cryptocurrency holdings.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has also weighed in on the issue, warning that the CLARITY Act could weaken state enforcement against crypto fraud. She believes that stronger regulations are needed to protect investors and maintain trust in the financial markets.
