MegaETH Launches With 10,000 TPS, Challenging Ethereum Layer 2 Oligopoly
The Ethereum Layer 2 sector has reached new heights, with over $47 billion in total value locked across all scaling solutions as of April 28, 2026. However, this growth has also led to a paradox: the more chains proliferate, the more fragmented liquidity becomes, making it harder for any single protocol to attract developers and users.
MegaETH, a real-time blockchain built on top of Ethereum, is set to launch its mainnet with a stated throughput of 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) and sub-millisecond block times. This performance claims places MegaETH as the highest-throughput Ethereum-aligned L2 to date.
The timing of MegaETH's launch is not accidental. The project aims to disrupt the incumbent oligopoly in the Layer 2 sector, which has established network effects, deep DeFi liquidity, and developer tooling that took years to build.
