Meme Coin Market Sees Significant Gains Amid Bitcoin Price Surge
The recent Bitcoin price surge has had a positive effect on the meme coin market. Between August 19 and August 22, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) jumped from around $64,000 to approximately $76,000, with DOGE, SHIB, and PEPE experiencing even larger moves.
Over the past seven days, Dogecoin (DOGE) has gained about 20%, while Shiba Inu (SHIB) has climbed nearly 17%. PEPE, on the other hand, has recovered more than 30% during the same period. These gains have pushed all three meme coins back above important technical levels after months of weak price action.
The recovery is largely attributed to the US Treasury's decision to double its bond buybacks, which lowered interest rates and improved conditions for risk assets. Additionally, expectations surrounding a White House crypto summit and the CLARITY Act have provided a more favorable backdrop for cryptocurrencies.
Short liquidations accelerated the Bitcoin rally once it crossed $70,000, with over $1 billion worth of short positions being wiped out within one hour. This forced traders holding those positions to buy back into the market.
