Meme Coins Plummet as Dogecoin Fails to Rally

The meme coin sector has been experiencing a significant downturn over the past year. The MarketVector Meme Coin Index (MEMECOIN), which tracks six of the largest meme coins by market capitalization, has lost 67.65% in value since last July.

This decline is particularly notable given that the index has been posting lower highs and lower lows since July 2025. The MEMECOIN index currently sits at a one-year low of -66.80%, having lost 75.81% since its inception on October 31, 2021.

Dogecoin (DOGE), the largest token in the meme coin sector, has been trading around $0.093 after slipping below $0.10. Despite being the only meme coin with spot ETFs tied to it and having a strong brand recognition, Dogecoin's current trajectory shows no signs of the momentum needed to lift the broader market.
