Meme Token Soars Amid AMC-Robinhood Dispute
The dispute between AMC Entertainment and Robinhood has taken an unexpected turn in the crypto space. The clash between the two companies has led to a surge in trading for the 'MEME' token on Robinhood Chain, with some traders making significant gains.
The MEME token was paired with Robinhood's tokenized product linked to AMC shares, and it rose more than 3,100-fold during its first day. Analysts say that the pairing is a stock-meme format, where liquidity uses the tokenized equity product instead of stablecoins.
A wallet tracked by Lookonchain showed a 713-fold paper gain after buying MEME tokens worth $2,972. The position was valued at over $2.1 million within 12 hours, but most gains were unrealized.
AMC CEO Adam Aron has criticized Robinhood's tokenized product, calling it 'contemptible' and 'outrageous'. He has also asked outside securities counsel to examine the offering.
