Memecoins Could Draw Regulatory Scrutiny with Mainstream Revival
Memecoins could become a major focus for policymakers if they regain mainstream popularity, according to Jake Chervinsky. As head of policy at Variant Fund and Blockchain Assoc., he notes that memecoins were viewed as a passing trend during the last cycle, which meant they didn't receive much attention from regulators.
Chervinsky points out that policymakers did not prioritize regulating memecoins in the past because they were seen as a short-term phenomenon. However, if these assets experience a resurgence in popularity, they are likely to become a key topic in future crypto policy discussions.
