Meta Ignores Crypto in New Facebook Marketplace Seller App
Meta has launched a standalone app for Facebook Marketplace sellers, providing them with a dedicated workspace to manage listings, field buyer inquiries, and process sales. The new app is targeted at individual and small-scale sellers who make up the backbone of Facebook Marketplace's consumer-to-consumer economy.
The Seller app follows a pattern of incremental upgrades Meta has been shipping for Facebook Marketplace. In November 2025, the company introduced collaborative tools and improved checkout experiences. Then on March 12, 2026, Meta rolled out AI-powered listing tools designed to make it faster to photograph, describe, and price items for sale.
The absence of crypto payments in the Seller app is a reminder that despite sitting at the center of one of the largest peer-to-peer commerce networks, Meta still wants nothing to do with crypto payments. This follows the company's decision to systematically distance itself from anything resembling a crypto initiative since its Libra stablecoin project collapsed in early 2022.
