Meta Partners With USDC to Reshape Stablecoin Market

Meta's foray into stablecoins has been met with caution after abandoning its own Diem project in 2022. The company now routes creator payouts through existing stablecoins, starting with USDC in Colombia and the Philippines via Stripe, Polygon, and Solana.

The GENIUS Act, which establishes federal licensing requirements for stablecoin issuers above $10 billion in supply, creates a two-sided effect for Meta's integration. It validates the decision to use regulated USDC rather than issuing a proprietary token, but also imposes compliance obligations on Stripe and Circle that flow through to Meta as the platform operator.

Meta's planned expansion to 160 countries by late 2026 would make it the largest single distribution channel for USDC payouts globally. This scale is something neither Tether nor Circle can replicate independently.
