MetaMask Agents Now Automate Onchain Trading with Self-Custodial Wallet
MetaMask has launched its Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet infrastructure designed for AI agents to interact directly with crypto markets. This new feature expands on an early-access rollout that began in June and allows users to connect supported agent frameworks, fund the wallet, establish trading rules, and allow an agent to operate within those boundaries.
The Agent Wallet supports various agent environments, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes, and OpenCode. It also interacts with Hyperliquid and supported EVM networks, such as Robinhood and Monad. MetaMask emphasizes that the wallet is self-custodial, meaning users retain control over their keys and can export their Secret Recovery Phrase.
The agent receives permission to act under specific rules rather than becoming the owner of the wallet. This distinction matters because it separates decision-making authority from ownership, addressing a long-standing issue in automated trading: giving software unrestricted access to private keys creates security problems.
