MetaMask Breaks Away from Consensys as Consumer-Focused Crypto Platform
MetaMask is splitting from Consensys Software Inc., its parent company. This separation will create two distinct brands, one focused on consumer platforms and the other on institutional infrastructure.
The new MetaMask will prioritize self-custody, payments, trading, and other financial services. It has reached 100 million downloads worldwide and processed trillions of dollars in transactions.
Users won't need to change anything as the wallet itself remains unaffected by the restructuring. The company's focus on consumer financial products is driven by its aim to build an 'Open Money' platform that allows users to hold, spend, save, and grow assets while retaining self-custody.
The new Consensys will be responsible for Linea, Besu, and Ethereum Institutional infrastructure. It will focus on banks, asset managers, payment providers, and other enterprises moving blockchain projects into production.
