MetaMask Breaks Free from Consensys Parent as Company Splits in Two
Consensys Software Inc. is splitting into two companies. One will be called MetaMask, which will include the popular wallet and consumer products. The other company will be named Consensys and will focus on institutional infrastructure business.
The separation is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Joe Lubin will be the chairman and CEO of MetaMask, while Mike Kriak will lead Consensys as its chief executive. David Cunningham will serve as president of Consensys.
Consensys' institutional infrastructure business includes the Linea layer 2 network, which holds $29 million in DeFi deposits. The company's Ethereum protocol work and Teku consensus client will also be part of Consensys.
