MetaMask Unveils Advanced Scam Detection for Users
MetaMask has introduced new security features to protect users from crypto scams. The wallet now flags potential investment and romance scams, lookalike wallet addresses, and transfers to first-time recipients.
The Added Protection feature automatically reverts transactions that don't match their previews. This feature is currently available on the browser extension and will soon be rolled out to mobile devices.
Martin Peko, Staff Product Manager at MetaMask, explained that users often ignored scam warnings, suggesting they trusted the recipient or were being coached past it. To address this issue, the company added a route to priority support from these flows, so users can reach a person if they're uncertain.
The new safeguards are part of a broader shift towards responsive and contextual security features. MetaMask uses AI-powered tools, such as LLMs and classification models, to analyze unstructured content across websites and social feeds at scale. This allows the company to warn users about possible scams before they send money.
