MetaMask Unveils Agent Wallet for Autonomous AI Agents
MetaMask has released Agent Wallet, a self-custodial tool designed for autonomous AI agents. The wallet allows AI agents to trade across decentralized finance protocols while their owners maintain control over spending limits and approvals.
The Agent Wallet runs transactions through security checks, including simulation and threat scanning. It also includes built-in protection of up to $10,000 in case of suspicious or malicious activity.
MetaMask's senior director of product, Zhen Yu Tong, stated that the infrastructure question cannot wait while agents are already moving and spending real money. He also cautioned that prompt injection, where rogue instructions hijack a model, remains an unsolved research problem.
The wallet is currently available to around 200 users who have joined an early access program, with a wider public rollout expected later this summer. MetaMask's move follows similar announcements from Coinbase and MoonPay, which introduced their own agent wallets in February and March respectively.
