Metaplanet Buys Majority Stake in Super League with Bitcoin-Funded Deal
Metaplanet has acquired a 96% stake in Super League Entertainment through a $134.6 million investment, turning the gaming media company into its U.S. bitcoin treasury platform.
The deal sees Metaplanet purchasing 44.9 million new Super League shares at $3 each, plus preferred stock and warrants for 2,100 BTC, worth roughly $136 million at current prices, and $2.5 million in cash.
After the transaction goes through, Super League will be renamed Superplanet Inc. and trade under the ticker SUPA. Metaplanet will own approximately 95.7% of its outstanding common stock.
'We've built one of the world's largest Bitcoin treasuries from Japan. Superplanet is how we build in America, the deepest capital market in the world,' said Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich.
