Metaplanet Defuses Market Speculation with Routine Custody Operation
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based treasury company, has clarified that its recent Bitcoin transfers were an internal operation and not a sale. The company's CEO Simon Gerovich stated that no Bitcoin was sold and their holdings remain at 43,000 BTC.
The confusion arose after blockchain analysts detected significant wallet activity associated with Metaplanet. Analytics platform Lookonchain identified 3,881 BTC departing from wallets connected to the firm, worth approximately $247 million in value. However, Gerovich revealed that the actual amount transferred totaled 5,014 BTC, around $322 million at current valuations.
The transfer incurred a mere $8 in mining fees and was part of a routine custody operation. Metaplanet has been expanding its Bitcoin treasury and aims to reach 100,000 BTC by late 2026 and 210,000 BTC by late 2027.
