Metaplanet Expands Asian Presence with Bitcoin-Focused Subsidiary
Metaplanet is expanding its presence in Asia by launching a new subsidiary focused on Bitcoin investments. The Tokyo-listed company has established Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited in Hong Kong with $1 million in initial capitalization.
The subsidiary will trade Bitcoin, Bitcoin-focused equities, preferred securities, and credit products tied to the Bitcoin treasury ecosystem as part of Project Nova, a broader initiative aimed at evolving from a corporate Bitcoin holder into a full-service, Bitcoin-centered financial platform. This move complements Metaplanet's existing Miami-based operation.
The company's credibility in this venture rests on its significant Bitcoin position, holding approximately 43,000 BTC acquired at an average cost of $95,209 per coin as of June 30, 2026. This mirrors the strategy popularized by MicroStrategy and suggests a gradual expansion beyond mere price appreciation.
In related news, Metaplanet has reduced its executive stock-options pool by 41.1% to address shareholder concerns about dilution, expecting minimal impact on consolidated financial results for the year ending December 31, 2026.
