Metaplanet Expands Global Footprint with $132M US Treasury Deal
Metaplanet, Tokyo's largest corporate Bitcoin holder, has made its first move in the US market. The company agreed to contribute 2,100 BTC (~$132.1 million) and $2.5 million in cash to Super League Enterprise in exchange for stock, preferred shares, and warrants.
The deal will rename Super League Enterprise to Superplanet, Inc., with a ticker of SUPA. Metaplanet will own about 95.7% of Superplanet's common stock after the closing, expected in the fourth quarter.
Celebrating this move as an opportunity to tap into the world's deepest capital market, CEO Simon Gerovich stated that Metaplanet is putting its own Bitcoin on the line to compound a single group Bitcoin position across two listed platforms.
Analysts have praised the deal for being distinct from recent shell-and-PIPE treasury deals. Benchmark-StoneX's Mark Palmer noted that Metaplanet funded the deal with its own Bitcoin, rather than third-party money raised at a discount.
