Metaplanet Moves $247M in Bitcoin Between Own Wallets
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed company, has moved 3,881 Bitcoin worth approximately $247 million between its own wallets on August 12. This large transfer was reported by blockchain tracker Lookonchain across five transactions over three hours.
The first transaction involved 1,473 BTC valued at about $93.8 million. At the time of the transfer, Bitcoin's price was near $63,600. This puts Metaplanet's full treasury approximately $1.4 billion below its estimated average acquisition price of $96,191 per coin.
The transferred coins represent roughly 9% of Metaplanet's disclosed 43,000 BTC balance. The company had not posted a sale notice or explanation for the wallet movement on its official disclosure page.
Metaplanet has used Bitcoin-backed financing products in the past and is currently studying Bitcoin-backed credit instruments with stablecoin issuer JPYC. This could explain the transfer as an internal treasury shuffle rather than a confirmed sale.
