Metaplanet Moves 5,014 BTC Amid Unrealized Losses and Financial Strains
Metaplanet moved 5,014 BTC between custody addresses within 24 hours in August. The company's CEO, Simon Gerovich, confirmed that this was a routine custody operation and no Bitcoin was sold.
The transfer came amid significant unrealized losses on the company's treasury holdings of 43,000 BTC. The average acquisition cost for these coins is $95,982, while the current spot price is around $63,500, resulting in an unrealized loss of over 30%.
Metaplanet's stock has declined by more than 43% since January and currently trades at about ¥221. The company secured $50 million from its 20th ordinary bond issue in April and around $137 million from overseas equity and warrant funding this year, but still holds significant liabilities of about $403 million.
