Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm known for its massive Bitcoin holdings, has undergone a significant transformation. The company acquired Siiibo Securities for approximately ¥2.1 billion ($13 million) to secure a Type I securities brokerage license. This move allows Metaplanet to issue Bitcoin-linked securities products directly to Japanese investors.

The acquisition is part of 'Project Nova,' Metaplanet's medium-term strategy to build a Bitcoin-centric financial ecosystem. The company can now issue specialized equity instruments, bypassing listing hurdles that previously blocked its product pipeline.

Metaplanet's first offerings from the new securities division are two preferred share products, MARS and Mercury. These pay monthly dividends without diluting existing common shareholders, targeting Japanese investors seeking higher yields in a low-interest environment. Mercury is expected to deliver an annual dividend yield of 4.9 percent.
