Metaplanet Shifts 3,881 BTC Amid Ongoing Aggressive Buying Spree
Metaplanet, a company that has been actively buying Bitcoin (BTC), made significant moves on Wednesday. According to data from Arkham, Metaplanet transferred 3,881 BTC across several transactions over three hours. This transfer went from the company's cold wallets to new addresses it also controls.
This move is not indicative of a sale, as transfers to fresh self-custody wallets do not add to tradable supply in the same way deposits to an exchange do. Metaplanet has done this before, moving nearly 5,000 BTC in March using the same pattern of test transactions followed by larger amounts into new wallets.
Analysts have interpreted these moves as internal custody reshuffling rather than distribution. At current prices near $63,600, Metaplanet's approximately 43,000 BTC is sitting on an unrealized loss of about $1.4 billion, down 34% from its average purchase price of around $96,000.
Metaplanet has been one of the most aggressive corporate buyers since April 2024, with a stated target of 210,000 BTC.
