Metaplanet Takes Aim at Japanese Crypto Market with Siiibo Securities Acquisition

Tokyo-listed Metaplanet has made a significant move in its bid to create a Bitcoin-focused financial platform in Japan. The company acquired Siiibo Securities, a licensed brokerage, for $13 million.

The acquisition allows Metaplanet to offer regulated investment products linked to Bitcoin, aiming to generate revenue beyond the price gains of the cryptocurrency.

This is the first step in Metaplanet's 'Project Nova,' which has secured a $500 million credit facility collateralized by Bitcoin. This will enable the company to expand its Bitcoin holdings and financial services.
