Metaplanet Takes Aim at Japan's Financial Services with $13M Acquisition
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed company, is making its most significant move yet to establish itself as a key player in Japan's Bitcoin ecosystem. The company has acquired Siiibo Securities for approximately $13 million, marking the first step in 'Project Nova', its strategy to build a comprehensive Bitcoin-focused financial platform within Japan's regulated framework.
The acquisition brings Metaplanet a critical component: a brokerage license. This license enables the company to offer Bitcoin-linked investment products directly to Japanese investors through a licensed channel, shifting its focus from passive Bitcoin hoarding to active participation in the market.
Metaplanet's current holdings include 2,235 BTC and access to a $500 million BTC-collateralized credit facility. This significant dry powder is expected to facilitate aggressive growth of its treasury position.
