Metaplanet's Bitcoin Holdings Complicated by Governance Concerns
Metaplanet Inc., a company that has risen through the ranks of digital asset treasuries, faces dilution and governance concerns due to its legacy equity compensation structures. The latest amendments on September 11 reduced the dilution from the 10th Series Stock Acquisition Rights to 188.2 million shares total, still over four times the original pool.
Despite trading at a 0.79x EV/mNAV discount, governance and capital structure concerns outweigh the apparent valuation attractiveness of Metaplanet Inc., according to an analyst who has initiated coverage with a cautious Hold rating due to shareholder activism and unresolved dilution overhang.
The company has become the third-largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder and the largest in Asia, currently holding around 43,000 BTC. The analyst's concerns are centered on the potential for further dilution and governance issues rather than the company's valuation itself, which appears attractive at current levels.
