Metaplanet's Bitcoin Treasury Strategy: A New Model in Digital Asset Adoption
A Bitcoin treasury company raises capital through equity, debt, bonds, loans, or operating income and allocates part of those funds toward BTC. Metaplanet is an example of this strategy, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under ticker 3350.
The company has transformed its business strategy around Satoshis accumulation and holds approximately 43,000 coins, placing it among the world's largest public company Bitcoin holders.
Metaplanet's strategy combines BTC accumulation, capital-market financing, yield, and XBT-related income generation. The company uses yen-denominated financing and ordinary bonds to support BTC purchases, taking advantage of historically low Japanese interest rates.
The company has set ambitious long-term targets, aiming for 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. In addition to its treasury strategy, Metaplanet also generates income from a yield-oriented business launched in Q4 2024.
Metaplanet's model is different from Strategy, the largest and most recognized Digital Asset treasury company globally. While both companies use capital-market financing, Metaplanet attempts to develop a Digital Asset-related income engine alongside its treasury strategy.
