Metaplanet's Gerovich Bets Big on Bitcoin Floor
Metaplanet's CEO Simon Gerovich has been vocal about his belief that Bitcoin has found its floor, after it dropped by roughly 50%. At a recent conference, he stated, 'I believe the bottom is in, and I expect a much friendlier rest of the year.'
Just days later, Gerovich backed his claims with action. He exercised subscription rights for 64 million common shares, increasing his total stake to approximately 5.9% of the company.
The shares carry a lock-up agreement until August 2031, indicating a multi-year commitment from the CEO. This purchase coincided with another tranche of Bitcoin accumulation by Metaplanet, which acquired 1,007 BTC for roughly $69 million at an average price of $68,520 per coin.
The acquisition is part of Metaplanet's defining characteristic: a months-long pattern of steady treasury expansion. This buying spree initially drew a favorable response from the market, with the stock advancing 4.4% to close at €1.69 and climbing 41% over the preceding 30 days.
However, despite this short-term gain, the shares remain down 24% on a twelve-month basis, highlighting a fundamental tension: Metaplanet's valuation is effectively a leveraged bet on Bitcoin itself, making its near-term trajectory uncertain.
In addition to its treasury strategy, Metaplanet has been reshaping its corporate structure. It is contributing 2,100 BTC valued at approximately $132.1 million and $2.5 million in cash to Super League in exchange for shares and warrants.
This transaction would leave Metaplanet holding roughly 95.7% of Super League's outstanding common stock and effectively create a US-listed vehicle for its Bitcoin treasury strategy.
