Metaplanet's meteoric rise to Japan's 33rd most traded stock
Metaplanet, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under ticker 3350, has experienced an astonishing rise in trading value over the past two years. The Japanese firm has transformed itself into a Bitcoin holding vehicle for public market investors in Japan, with its stock now consistently appearing on the TSE's leaderboard.
In November 2024, Metaplanet saw ¥21.9 billion (approximately $142 million) change hands in a single day, ranking as high as 29th by value traded on standout trading days. The company has frequently led the TSE Standard Market in trading volume and value, sometimes generating more daily turnover than Toyota and Sony.
As of recent trading, shares hover between ¥300 and ¥350, putting the company's market capitalization somewhere in the range of ¥380 billion to ¥450 billion. The stock's multi-year returns have exceeded 1,000% at one point.
Metaplanet now holds an estimated 35,000 to 43,000 BTC, making it the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury holder in Japan. CEO Simon Gerovich has been vocal about the company's strategy and its market achievements, regularly highlighting trading milestones through public communications.
