Mexican Authorities Seize 300 GPUs in Suspected Crypto Mining Raid

Mexican authorities have seized 300 graphics processing units (GPUs) from a suspected illicit cryptocurrency mining farm in Puebla. The facility, discovered in the mountainous municipality of Tlaola, was found to have approximately 80 medium-voltage terminals, eight satellite antennas, and a pedestal transformer.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining whether the remote facility illegally drew electricity from a nearby hydroelectric dam. If true, this would be just one instance of electricity theft used to power cryptocurrency mining operations in Mexico.

While cryptocurrency mining itself is not prohibited in Mexico, the source of the electricity and the potential for money laundering are being investigated. Chainalysis estimated that illicit addresses received at least $154 billion during 2025, driven largely by sanctioned entities worldwide.
